Why it is important to keep on top of your oven.

S MILLS • Aug 26, 2022

Keeping your food fresh and your family safe.

Your oven is one of the most used appliances in your home. Often used at least a few times per day; even more, if you’re an avid baker. The build-up of grease and grime can interfere with the hot air within the oven, meaning that food may not be as cooked as it could be, or it may be cooked unevenly.

If it isn’t working properly, and your food isn’t cooked correctly, this can put you and your family at risk of food poisoning and infections. In addition, a build-up of grease and grime will alter the efficiency of your oven leading to an increase in the power needed to cook your food.

Burnt food and smoking.

You should also consider that remnants of leftover food that may be in your oven can lead to an increase in smoke within your oven. Simply put, if your oven is slightly smoky when you turn it on, it is a bad sign. Breathing in this smoke can be bad for your health, whilst the burnt food can also lead to a fire hazard. We should also point out that excess smoke in your oven can seriously alter the taste of your food. This can be caused by microscopic particles of dust and dirt and gases like carbon monoxide.

Keep on top of your oven.

Simply put, you can avoid all this by ensuring your oven is part of your regular household cleaning. Here at BCC-WCC, we remove oven racks and wash using a simple solution. This allows us to then work on clearing the interior of the oven.

Once the big clean is done, you can help keep your oven in a good condition by giving it a wipe-down after each use. This will help ensure the time between cleans can be reduced, although there is no escaping, grease will build back up the more you use it.
